This event is put on by Your Outdoors in the Haliburton Highlands – Price is $10/person.

The Stories on Snowshoeing

snowshoeing shoeCome hear the stories behind a remarkable collection of heritage snowshoes and snowshoe adventures with recreation expert, Craig MacDonald.

Craig worked 47 years with the Ontario Government and for the past 24 years as Recreation Specialist in Algonquin Park.

Earlier to that he was your Recreation Specialist at the Frost Centre and responsible for the development of the Centre's canoe routes and skiing trails.

 

Craig is also referred to as the Map Man of Temagami.

snowshoeing fixHe researched and developed a full-color map depicting traditional snowshoe and canoe routes from the Temagami region as they were in 1900.

It is the most comprehensive map of traditional routes actually made in Canada.

Craig has gone on annual snowshoeing expeditions for the past 38 years.

This have taken him through countless wilderness regions in Eastern Canada including a three week trip throughout Algonquin Park.

In his spare time he manufactures winter camping equipment and enjoys to be in the woods at all times of the year.

If your interests are in the wintertime sport of shoeshoe trips or enjoy snowshoeing through the forest and lakes then listen and learn with the specialists.
